Air Conditioning Advice
AMASON AIR is committed to helping the customer. We also understand that not everyone wants to be an HVAC expert, but there are a few simple things you should know that might help in the next purchase of your system, or filters.
You may find yourself at your local hardware store comparing numbers and trying to weed out marketing schemes in order to find the correct air filter for your unit. The following guidelines are to assist you in purchasing your air filters. If you need assistance, Amason Air is available to order the specific air filter to fit your needs.
- Allergy Relief: Some filters can reduce certain allergens in the air. These are useful for those who suffer from allergies. Pay attention to the number listed on the filter. A higher number indicates the filter is more effective.
- Accordion style vs. flat style: Notice some filters have a different shape within the filter area. The organ/wave form is more efficient, so Amason Air recommends this filter format.
- Multi Use Filter: These filters are reusable. If you do choose this style, be sure to wash with a high pressure water hose. These filters collect dust and washing with a conventional water hose only pushes the microscopic dust and allergens to the middle of the filter. This restricts airflow through your unit and reduces household air quality. Always replace these filters after 1 year.
- Single Use Filter: These filters are made of polyester or fiberglass. If this style is selected, be sure to change monthly.
- At Amason Air, we suggest Merv 16 quality filters, but we can order any brand you like and ship it to your house. Contact us today.
The air conditioning outside unit is seldom noticed until it stops working on a record high temperature day.
- When mowing around the outside ac unit, you will need to ensure the system is off so that the grass clippings are not absorbed by the unit.
- A Visual review of the outside unit is recommended. Look for obstacles that may prevent the fan from transferring air through the coils.
- Rinse the unit with a water hose if debris is collected in the coils
- Do not use corrosion cleaners on the coils
Prevent high energy costs by implementing the following tips.
- Sometimes energy effectiveness can come in the simplest forms. Do a quick check for air movement around the windows and doors. Have someone stand outside with a box fan and see if air is felt on the opposite side of the window.
- Check the insulation in the house attic and walls. Insulation in older homes frequently loses its effectiveness over time. New improvements in insulation technology will allow several cost effective options for your business or residence.
- Modernize your home appliances. Some older inefficient appliances produce heat. Look for 'Energy Star' rated appliances.
- Home improvement. Keep in mind dark colors absorb heat while light colors resist heat. When planning home improvement, from painting to roofing, choose light and reflective colors.
- Windows: Locate the windows that transfer the most heat into your house and try to shade them. You may plant trees and tint windows to help prevent the sun from causing high cooling costs. New windows contain a glaze that allows the sun in and keeps some of the heat out.
- Keep the air moving with ceiling fans or isolating fans. Promo code: 361IUSEAMASONAIR The air flow will create a comfortable atmosphere without putting a strain on your budget. The temperature will feel comfortable, allowing the ac unit to be more cost effective. Use Energy Star Rated products.
- Energy savings can be increased to about 3% for every degree the thermostat is raised during the summer months. Before leaving for the day adjust the thermostat to prevent the unit from running continuously.
